Shams-ol-Emareh (Building of the Sun) is the most impressive building in the Golestan Palace.

The idea of constructing a tall building came to Nasser-ol-Din-Shah before his first trip to Europe and from pictorial representations of European buildings. The king wanted a structure from which he could have a panoramic view of the city.

The construction of the Shams-ol-Emareh, designed by Moayer-ol-Mamalek, began in 1865 and was completed two years later.

The architect was Master Ali Mohammad Kashi
